Overview

Kobotide is a synthetic peptide derived from the venom of the Chinese red-headed centipede (Scolopendra subspinipes mutilans). It is classified as an antimicrobial peptide and has demonstrated potent antibacterial activity, particularly against Gram-positive bacteria, including methicillin-resistant Staphylococcus aureus (MRSA). Kobotide exerts its effects by disrupting bacterial cell membranes, leading to cell death. In addition to its antimicrobial properties, preliminary research suggests it may have anti-inflammatory and immunomodulatory effects. Kobotide is primarily studied in preclinical settings for potential use as a novel antibiotic or anti-infective agent.
