Drug intelligence / Profile preview
Konjac glucomannan is a natural, water-soluble dietary fiber extracted from the tubers of the Amorphophallus konjac plant. It is primarily used as a dietary supplement and food additive for its thickening and gelling properties. Mechanistically, it absorbs water in the stomach and intestines to form a bulky fiber mass that promotes satiety, slows gastric emptying, and can help regulate blood sugar by slowing glucose absorption. It also binds bile acids in the gut to reduce cholesterol absorption. Its main indications include weight management, constipation relief, cholesterol reduction, and support for glycemic control in diabetes. It is available as powder, capsules/tablets (supplement), or incorporated into foods such as noodles or flour[1][2][5][6].
