KOS-2187

KOS-2187 is a small molecule antagonist of the corticotropin-releasing factor receptor 1 (CRF1), which was developed by Kissei Pharmaceutical. The drug was primarily investigated for the treatment of irritable bowel syndrome (IBS), targeting the gut-brain axis to modulate the body's physiological response to stress. CRF1 receptors are known to play a critical role in mediating stress-induced gastrointestinal dysfunction, including visceral hypersensitivity and abnormal colonic motility. By blocking these receptors, KOS-2187 was intended to alleviate the abdominal pain and bowel irregularities associated with IBS. Clinical development reached Phase 1 trials, but the program was subsequently discontinued.
