Drug intelligence / Profile preview
Kostaive Bivalent (ARCT-2301) is a self-amplifying mRNA (sa-mRNA) vaccine developed by Arcturus Therapeutics in collaboration with CSL for the prevention of COVID-19. It utilizes Arcturus's proprietary LUNAR lipid nanoparticle delivery system and STARR self-amplifying mRNA technology. As a bivalent vaccine, it is designed to encode the spike proteins of two different SARS-CoV-2 variants—typically the ancestral strain and an Omicron variant—to provide broader immune protection against evolving viral strains. Unlike conventional mRNA vaccines, sa-mRNA contains the genetic instructions for its own replication once inside the host cell, which potentially allows for lower dosing levels and a more robust, durable immune response.
