KP-100 is a recombinant form of human hepatocyte growth factor (HGF) with a deletion of five amino acid residues. It is being developed as a neuroprotective agent for central nervous system diseases, particularly amyotrophic lateral sclerosis (ALS) and acute spinal cord injury. The drug acts as a potent neuroprotectant by leveraging the pleiotropic effects of HGF, which include promoting neuronal survival and regeneration. In clinical studies, KP-100 is administered intrathecally via an implantable catheter system to deliver the drug directly into the cerebrospinal fluid. Early-phase trials have demonstrated that KP-100 is safe and well-tolerated in humans[7][10].
