KP001

KP001 (also referenced as ART-001 in some sources) is an investigational small molecule drug in early clinical development. It is being evaluated primarily for safety, tolerability, and pharmacokinetics in healthy volunteers, with a focus on its potential use for treating severe allergic reactions and vascular malformations. KP001 acts as an inhibitor of phosphatidylinositol 3 kinase alpha (PI3Kα), a molecular target implicated in a variety of diseases, including congenital and cardiovascular disorders. The drug is being developed by Kaken Pharmaceutical and ARTham Therapeutics, with clinical trials taking place in Japan and the United States. KP001 is not yet approved in any country and currently has no known adverse events reported in trials. Other clinical studies are assessing its effects on the pharmacokinetics of drugs such as metformin and midazolam, indicating possible inhibitory activity on organic cation transporter 2 (OCT2) and multidrug and toxin extrusion protein 1 (MATE1), though its primary recognized target is PI3Kα[3][5][7].
