KP8011 is an investigational allogeneic cell therapy consisting of neural progenitor cells (NPCs) derived from induced pluripotent stem cells (iPSCs). Developed by K Pharma, Inc., a venture originating from Keio University, the therapy is specifically designed for the treatment of subacute spinal cord injury. The therapeutic approach involves the transplantation of iPSC-NPCs into the injured spinal cord to facilitate functional recovery through multiple mechanisms, including the differentiation of transplanted cells into neurons and glial cells, remyelination of damaged axons, and the secretion of neurotrophic factors that support the survival and regeneration of endogenous neural tissue. A physician-led clinical study has been successfully completed at Keio University, and K Pharma is currently preparing for a corporate-sponsored Phase 1/2 clinical trial, with a filing planned for 2027.
