KPI-014 is a preclinical-stage, cell-free therapy derived from the secretome of mesenchymal stem cells (MSC-S), being developed by KALA BIO for the treatment of inherited retinal degenerative diseases such as retinitis pigmentosa and Stargardt disease. The therapy is designed to provide a gene-agnostic approach to these conditions by delivering a complex mixture of neurotrophic factors, growth factors, anti-inflammatory or immune-modulatory factors, and antioxidant inhibitors. These components are intended to protect and preserve retinal cell function and slow disease progression. KPI-014 leverages the regenerative potential of MSC-derived secretomes, which have demonstrated neuroprotective effects in both in vitro and in vivo models of retinal degeneration[1][5][6][7][8][10].
