KpSAT-13A is a novel synthetic peptide analog of kisspeptin-13 (Kp-13) designed to target the KISS1 receptor (KISS1R) for the treatment of asthma. Developed by researchers at North Dakota State University and the Mayo Clinic, KpSAT-13A incorporates specific amino acid substitutions (Y10W and P12T) to enhance its binding affinity and potency compared to endogenous kisspeptins. In preclinical models of airway smooth muscle (ASM) remodeling, the peptide demonstrated significant inhibitory effects on PDGF-induced cell proliferation and TGF-β1-induced extracellular matrix deposition, including collagen and fibronectin. These effects are mediated through the inhibition of the phospho-PKC-δ signaling pathway. KpSAT-13A represents a potential therapeutic approach to mitigate the structural changes in the airways associated with chronic asthma.
