Overview

KpSAT-13C is a novel synthetic peptide analog of kisspeptin-13 (Kp-13) designed to target the KiSS-1 receptor (KISS1R) for the treatment of asthma. Developed by researchers at North Dakota State University, the University of Tennessee Health Science Center, and the Mayo Clinic, KpSAT-13C is characterized by two specific amino acid substitutions in the endogenous Kp-13 sequence: Serine to Alanine at position 6 (S6A) and Tyrosine to Tryptophan at position 10 (Y10W). These modifications are intended to enhance binding efficiency and receptor activation. In preclinical studies using primary human airway smooth muscle (ASM) cells, KpSAT-13C demonstrated the ability to reduce PDGF-induced cell proliferation and modulate remodeling processes. The peptide acts as an orthosteric agonist of KISS1R, leading to the inhibition of the phospho-PKC-δ signaling pathway, which is implicated in the pathophysiology of asthma and ASM dysfunction.
