Overview

KPV is a tripeptide consisting of Lysine-Proline-Valine, representing the C-terminal fragment (residues 11–13) of alpha-melanocyte-stimulating hormone (alpha-MSH). It is primarily known for its anti-inflammatory, antimicrobial, and wound-healing properties. Unlike the full alpha-MSH molecule, KPV does not induce skin pigmentation but retains significant immunomodulatory activity. Its mechanism of action involves the inhibition of NF-kappa B (NF-kB) signaling pathways and the downregulation of pro-inflammatory cytokines such as TNF-alpha and IL-8. KPV is often transported into cells via the peptide transporter PepT1, which is highly expressed in the intestinal epithelium, making it a candidate for treating inflammatory bowel diseases (IBD). While it is frequently discussed in the context of performance enhancement and supplement review platforms like Quinnova, it remains largely in the research and development phase for clinical applications in dermatology and gastroenterology.
