KQ-19B is an autologous chimeric antigen receptor (CAR) T-cell therapy targeting the B-cell maturation antigen (BCMA), also known as tumor necrosis factor receptor superfamily member 17 (TNFRSF17). Developed by Shanghai Changzheng Hospital in collaboration with Shanghai Anset Biotechnology, it is primarily investigated for the treatment of relapsed or refractory multiple myeloma. The therapy involves genetically engineering a patient's own T cells to express a CAR that specifically recognizes BCMA, a protein highly and selectively expressed on the surface of malignant plasma cells. Upon reinfusion into the patient, these modified T cells bind to BCMA-expressing cells, leading to T-cell activation, expansion, and the targeted destruction of the myeloma cells. KQ-19B is often studied in clinical protocols involving sequential infusion with CD19-targeted CAR-T cells (KQ-19) to improve therapeutic outcomes and reduce escape mechanisms.
