KRIYA-839 is an adeno-associated virus (AAV)-based gene therapy being developed by Kriya Therapeutics for the treatment of Type 1 diabetes. Designed as a one-time intramuscular injection, the therapy delivers genetic sequences encoding both insulin and glucokinase. The objective is to enable durable glycemic control by promoting the endogenous production of these proteins, thereby improving time-in-range and lowering HbA1c levels. Preclinical studies in streptozotocin-induced diabetic mice have shown that KRIYA-839 can potentially reduce or eliminate the requirement for exogenous insulin injections, aiming for insulin independence.
