KRP-KC318E is an investigational ophthalmic solution developed by Senju Pharmaceutical in collaboration with Kyorin Pharmaceutical. It was primarily evaluated for the treatment of accommodative asthenopia (eye strain). The drug is believed to act as a muscarinic receptor agonist, targeting receptors in the ciliary muscle to facilitate contraction and improve the eye's focusing ability. In a Phase II randomized, placebo-controlled study conducted in Japan (jRCT2080224737), KRP-KC318E demonstrated an acceptable safety profile but failed to show superior efficacy compared to placebo and cyanocobalamin ophthalmic solution. Consequently, its development for this indication appears to have been discontinued.
