Overview

KRT8-overexpressing HUC-MSCs are a genetically modified form of human umbilical cord-derived mesenchymal stem cells (hUC-MSCs) engineered to overexpress keratin 8 (KRT8), an intermediate filament protein. hUC-MSCs are multipotent stromal cells with low immunogenicity and the ability to differentiate into various cell types, making them attractive for regenerative medicine and cell-based therapies[6]. Overexpression of KRT8 is intended to enhance specific biological properties or therapeutic effects, though the precise mechanism depends on the context of use. In general, hUC-MSCs exert their effects through paracrine signaling, immunomodulation, anti-inflammatory actions, and tissue repair[1][5][6]. The modification with KRT8 may further influence epithelial characteristics or resistance to apoptosis; however, detailed mechanisms specific to this engineered variant require additional published data.
