Overview

KS2 is a novel kisspeptin receptor (KISS1R) agonist being investigated for the treatment of severe asthma. Developed by researchers at the University of Oklahoma Health Campus and North Dakota State University, KS2 aims to attenuate airway hyperresponsiveness (AHR) and airway remodeling. In preclinical mouse models of chronic asthma induced by cyclic-di-GMP and mixed allergens, intranasal administration of KS2 significantly reduced airway resistance and elastance while decreasing inflammatory cell infiltration (eosinophils and neutrophils) and collagen deposition in lung tissue. The drug leverages the Kp/KISS1R signaling pathway to address the Th2/Th17 inflammatory phenotype characteristic of corticosteroid-resistant severe asthma.
