KSP-1007-05 is a novel small molecule beta-lactamase inhibitor (BLI) belonging to the diazabicyclooctane (DBO) class, currently under development by Sumitomo Pharma. It is specifically designed to be administered in combination with carbapenem antibiotics, such as meropenem, to combat serious infections caused by carbapenem-resistant Gram-negative bacteria, including Enterobacteriaceae. By inhibiting a broad spectrum of beta-lactamase enzymes that otherwise degrade carbapenems, KSP-1007-05 restores the efficacy of the partner antibiotic. The drug is being evaluated in Phase 1 clinical trials for the treatment of hospital-acquired pneumonia (HAP) and ventilator-associated pneumonia (VAP), focusing on its safety, tolerability, and pharmacokinetics in healthy volunteers and patients.
