Drug intelligence / Profile preview
KTX-1161 is a topical ophthalmic solution of SCO-116, a small-molecule nuclear factor erythroid 2-related factor 2 (Nrf2) activator being developed by Kuria Therapeutics under exclusive license from SCOHIA PHARMA for the prevention and treatment of corneal endothelial disease.[1][2][11][14] SCO-116 is a macrocyclic Nrf2 activator that selectively disrupts the interaction between Nrf2 and its negative regulator KEAP1 through non‑covalent binding, enhancing Nrf2-mediated antioxidant and cytoprotective signaling in corneal endothelial cells and potentially improving their survival and function under oxidative and surgical stress.[14] KTX-1161 is intended for use as an eye drop before and after ophthalmic surgery and in chronic corneal endothelial disorders such as Fuchs’ endothelial corneal dystrophy, with planned Phase 2 trials to assess its ability to prevent corneal endothelial cell loss associated with cataract and other ophthalmic surgeries as well as to treat chronic endothelial dysfunction.[1][2][7][8][11][12][16]
