KU-046

KU-046 is an orally available, first-in-class small-molecule drug candidate originally developed by Kareus Therapeutics as a dual-acting agent with both symptomatic and disease-modifying potential in chronic disorders such as Alzheimer’s disease, multiple sclerosis, and type 2 diabetes. Preclinical data presented in Alzheimer’s disease models indicate that KU-046 improves cognition in a dose-dependent manner in rat novel object recognition tests when dosed orally, suggesting central nervous system activity and neuroprotective effects, although the precise molecular target and pharmacology have not been publicly disclosed. Kareus partnered with Quintiles to advance KU-046 into clinical development via an IND filing for diabetes, but there is no evidence of late-stage clinical development or regulatory approval, and its further status appears uncertain.
