Drug intelligence / Profile preview
Kuanxiong Aerosol is a Traditional Chinese Medicine (TCM) formulation developed for the rapid relief of angina pectoris and symptoms associated with coronary heart disease. It is composed of volatile oils and extracts from five primary herbs: *Asarum sieboldii* (Asarum), *Santalum album* (Sandalwood), *Alpinia officinarum* (Galangal), *Piper longum* (Long Pepper), and *Borneolum syntheticum* (Borneol). The drug is administered via oral inhalation (spray) and acts by dilating coronary arteries, improving coronary microcirculation, and reducing myocardial ischemia. It is frequently used as an alternative to nitroglycerin for the emergency treatment of acute chest pain and is currently being investigated for its effects on coronary microcirculation during percutaneous coronary intervention (PCI).
