Overview

Kudinchoside A is a triterpenoid saponin isolated from the leaves of *Ilex kudingcha*, a plant traditionally used in China to prepare Kuding tea. It is being investigated by The Third Hospital of Changsha for its potential therapeutic applications in chronic respiratory diseases, including bronchial asthma and chronic obstructive pulmonary disease (COPD). The compound exhibits potent anti-inflammatory properties, primarily through the inhibition of the NF-kappaB signaling pathway and the subsequent reduction in the production of Th2-associated pro-inflammatory cytokines such as Interleukin-4 (IL-4), Interleukin-5 (IL-5), and Interleukin-13 (IL-13). Research indicates that kudinchoside A can effectively reduce airway hyperresponsiveness, inflammatory cell infiltration, and mucus hypersecretion in animal models of respiratory distress.
