Drug intelligence / Profile preview
Kuding saponin A is a small molecule chemical drug developed as an inhalation solution for the treatment of respiratory diseases, specifically bronchial asthma and chronic obstructive pulmonary disease (COPD). Developed by Shanghai Kaiyi Pharmaceutical Technology, a subsidiary of Zhejiang Wolwo Bio-Pharmaceutical (Wolwo Biotech), the drug is a purified saponin derived from the Chinese herb Kudingcha (*Ilex kudingcha*). It functions as a bronchodilator, with research indicating its mechanism involves the activation of bitter taste receptors (TAS2Rs) located on airway smooth muscle cells, which triggers muscle relaxation. The candidate is currently in Phase 2 clinical development in China.
