Overview
Kudingxiang Tong Qi is a Traditional Chinese Medicine (TCM) hospital preparation developed by the Renmin Hospital of Peking University (also known as Renmin Hospital of Beijing University) for the management of postoperative ileus (POI). The preparation is primarily derived from the pedicel of *Cucumis melo* L., known as Kudingxiang or Melo Pedicellus in TCM. It contains bioactive cucurbitacins that are thought to stimulate gastrointestinal motility. Administered rectally via enema or drip, Kudingxiang Tong Qi is used to accelerate the recovery of bowel function following abdominal surgery, specifically by promoting the early passage of flatus and defecation. It is a recognized hospital-made pharmaceutical within the Chinese regulatory framework for TCM and is distinct from Kuding tea (*Ilex kudingcha*).
