Kuijiekang Enema

Kuijiekang Enema is a Traditional Chinese Medicine (TCM) formulation developed by Tianjin Tasly New Resource Pharmaceutical for the treatment of ulcerative colitis. Administered rectally, it is specifically indicated for patients presenting with the damp-heat in the large intestine syndrome. The formulation is composed of several herbal extracts, including *Sophora flavescens* (Kushen), *Sanguisorba officinalis* (Diyu), *Scutellaria baicalensis* (Huangqin), and *Pulsatilla chinensis* (Baitouweng). These components work synergistically to exert anti-inflammatory, antibacterial, and hemostatic effects. Mechanistically, Kuijiekang Enema inhibits the production of pro-inflammatory cytokines such as TNF-α, IL-1β, and IL-6, and modulates the NF-κB signaling pathway to reduce colonic mucosal inflammation and promote tissue repair. It is widely used in China as a localized therapy to manage active flares and maintain remission in distal ulcerative colitis and proctitis.
