Overview

Kumatakenin is a methoxylated flavonoid, specifically the 3,7-dimethyl ether of kaempferol, isolated from plants such as *Varthemia iphionoides* and *Alpinia kumatake*. It is primarily researched as a bioactive lead compound for its antineoplastic and anti-inflammatory properties. In metastatic prostate cancer models, kumatakenin has demonstrated cytotoxic effects by inducing apoptosis and causing mitochondrial membrane potential depolarization. Additionally, it has been shown to inhibit the production of inflammatory cytokines and mediators like nitric oxide (NO) and prostaglandin E2 (PGE2) in stimulated macrophages, suggesting potential applications in inflammatory disorders. Its drug-like ADMET profile further supports its potential as a scaffold for novel therapeutic development.
