Drug intelligence / Profile preview
Kunkuibaoshen Granules (KKG) is a traditional Chinese herbal formulation developed by the Jiangsu Province Hospital of Chinese Medicine (Affiliated Hospital of Nanjing University of Chinese Medicine) for the treatment of chronic kidney disease (CKD) and diabetic kidney disease (DKD). The formulation is composed of *Abelmoschus manihot* flower, *Lobelia chinensis* root, *Astragalus membranaceus*, and processed *Cornus officinalis*. Its active components, including epicatechin, hyperoside, isoquercitrin, and gossypetin-8-O-glucuronide, target endoplasmic reticulum (ER)-mitochondrial crosstalk to restore cellular homeostasis and alleviate renal fibrosis. KKG modulates lipid metabolic pathways, enhances ER-mitochondrial contact and calcium signaling, and restores fatty acid oxidation (FAO) and mitochondrial respiration. It has demonstrated therapeutic potential in reducing proteinuria, improving creatinine levels, and mitigating CKD-associated renal fibrosis by binding to key metabolic proteins such as ACAT1 and SCD1.
