Drug intelligence / Profile preview
Kuntai is a Traditional Chinese Medicine (TCM) formulation, specifically known as Kuntai Capsule, used primarily for the treatment of menopausal symptoms and primary ovarian insufficiency (POI). It is composed of six traditional ingredients: Rehmannia glutinosa, Coptis chinensis, Scutellaria baicalensis, Paeonia lactiflora, Donkey-hide gelatin (Colla Corii Asini), and Poria cocos. The drug is designed to nourish yin and clear heat according to TCM principles, effectively acting as a natural alternative or adjunct to hormone replacement therapy (HRT). Its mechanism involves the regulation of the hypothalamic-pituitary-ovarian (HPO) axis, modulation of estrogen receptors, and protection of ovarian granulosa cells from oxidative stress and apoptosis. It is widely used in China for perimenopausal syndrome and is currently being evaluated in Phase 4 clinical trials for early-onset hypoovarian function.
