Overview
Kuoxin Decoction is a traditional Chinese medicine (TCM) herbal formula primarily used for the treatment of dilated cardiomyopathy (DCM) and DCM-related heart failure. The decoction consists of multiple herbs, with Astragalus membranaceus and Polygonatum sibiricum as primary ingredients to replenish Qi-Yin and essence. Other key components include Salvia miltiorrhiza (for blood activation and stasis dissolution), Cinnamomum cassia (to warm Yang), Trichosanthes kirilowii peel, and Vitex negundo seed. Modern pharmacological studies suggest that these herbs contribute to improved cardiac function through anti-inflammatory, antioxidant, anti-apoptotic effects, inhibition of angiotensin I receptors (AT1), blockade of the TGF-β/Smads signaling pathway, and promotion of lymphangiogenesis via upregulation of VEGF-C/VEGFR-3 signaling. Salvianolic acid B is identified as a major active ingredient responsible for promoting lymphatic endothelial cell proliferation and migration[1][2].
