KUR-1301

KUR-1301 is a topical ophthalmic ointment formulation of vancomycin hydrochloride (1.1%) developed by Kurobe LLC for the treatment of moderate to severe bacterial conjunctivitis. As a glycopeptide antibiotic, it specifically targets Gram-positive bacteria, including resistant strains such as methicillin-resistant Staphylococcus aureus (MRSA) and methicillin-resistant Staphylococcus epidermidis (MRSE). The drug works by inhibiting bacterial cell wall synthesis, a mechanism that remains effective against many clinical isolates that have developed resistance to standard approved antibiotics. KUR-1301 was evaluated in a Phase 3, randomized, multicenter, double-masked, placebo-controlled study (NCT02432807) where it was administered four times daily for seven days. The development of this formulation addresses a clinical need for effective treatments for resistant ocular infections.
