KUX-1151 is an investigational small molecule drug developed for the oral treatment of gout and hyperuricemia. It acts as a dual inhibitor of xanthine oxidase (XO), which regulates uric acid production, and uric acid transporter 1 (URAT1/SLC22A12), responsible for the reabsorption of uric acid in the kidneys. By inhibiting both targets, KUX-1151 reduces serum uric acid levels through decreased production and increased excretion. The drug was originally developed by Kissei Pharmaceutical and later licensed to Pfizer for further development. Clinical trials reached phase II in Japan but were discontinued before approval[1][2][3][4][5][6].
