Overview
KW-008 is a pegylated recombinant consensus interferon variant developed by Beijing Kawin Technology for the treatment of viral hepatitis. It consists of a consensus interferon protein conjugated to polyethylene glycol (PEG), which extends the drug's half-life and allows for less frequent subcutaneous administration compared to non-pegylated interferons. The drug acts by binding to the type I interferon receptor (IFNAR), triggering a signaling cascade that induces an antiviral state in host cells and modulates the immune response to combat viral infections such as Hepatitis C. As of late 2018, KW-008 was in Phase III clinical trials in China for treatment-naive patients with Hepatitis C.
