Overview

KW-040 is a therapeutic vaccine candidate developed by Beijing Kawin Technology for the treatment of chronic hepatitis B virus (HBV) infection. It is designed to stimulate the host's immune system to overcome the immune tolerance characteristic of chronic infection, aiming to achieve a functional cure, defined as sustained HBsAg loss. The drug is administered via subcutaneous injection and is currently being evaluated in Phase I clinical trials, specifically in adults with chronic HBV infection who are on stable nucleos(t)ide analogue (NA) therapy. KW-040 is part of a broader strategy to combine immunomodulators with antiviral agents to improve the rates of functional cure in the HBV patient population.
