KW-2170 is a **novel pyrazoloacridone small molecule chemotherapeutic** agent developed as a **DNA intercalator and topoisomerase II inhibitor**, similar in mechanism to doxorubicin hydrochloride but with reduced cardiac toxicity. It was developed primarily for the treatment of various solid tumors, including ovarian cancer and castrate-resistant prostate cancer. KW-2170 demonstrated acceptable toxicity profiles in clinical trials (with neutropenia as dose-limiting toxicity and little cardiotoxicity), but clinical efficacy in late-stage, heavily pretreated populations was minimal, resulting in the discontinuation of its development after phase II trials[1][2][3][5].
