Kyasanur Forest Disease Vaccine

The Kyasanur Forest Disease (KFD) vaccine is an inactivated, adjuvanted vaccine developed by Indian Immunologicals Limited (IIL) in collaboration with the Indian Council of Medical Research (ICMR) and the National Institute of Virology (NIV). Designed to protect against the Kyasanur Forest Disease virus (KFDV)—a tick-borne flavivirus also known as "monkey fever"—the vaccine utilizes killed virus particles to induce protective immunity. It is administered as a two-dose regimen with a 28-day interval. The vaccine is intended to address the endemic threat of KFD in India's Western Ghats region. As of February 2026, the candidate has successfully completed preclinical animal and toxicity studies and has progressed into Phase I human clinical trials following approval from the Central Drugs Standard Control Organisation (CDSCO).
