Overview

Kynurenic acid amide (KYNAa) is a newly synthesized derivative of kynurenic acid, designed to improve blood-brain barrier penetration. It acts as a glutamate receptor antagonist and inhibits α7-nicotinic acetylcholine receptors. This small molecule is being investigated for its potential therapeutic use in migraine headache, where it has shown to modulate neurochemical markers of activation and sensitization of the trigeminal system in preclinical models.
