Overview

Kyslecel is an autologous pancreatic islet cell therapy marketed for the treatment of chronic or recurrent acute pancreatitis. The therapy is intended for patients undergoing a total pancreatectomy (TPIAT procedure), where the patient's own insulin-producing islet cells are isolated from the removed pancreas and subsequently re-infused into the portal vein. Once transplanted, these cells engraft in the liver and continue to produce insulin, thereby preventing or mitigating the severity of post-surgical diabetes. The product was developed by Koligo Therapeutics, which utilized the Icellator device for automated cell isolation, and was later acquired by Orgenesis in 2020 to be integrated into their point-of-care (POCare) platform.
