KytoStat is a hemostatic wound dressing designed to rapidly control bleeding from traumatic injuries, surgical procedures, and dental extractions. There are two primary versions: an earlier chitosan-based bandage developed by HemCon Medical Technologies (later rebranded as HemCon Strip First Aid) and a more recent glycosaminoglycan-based biopolymer dressing developed by COMSATS University Islamabad in collaboration with Cotton Craft Pvt Ltd. The mechanism of action involves an electrostatic interaction where the positively charged surface of the dressing attracts negatively charged red blood cells and platelets, promoting rapid thrombosis and the formation of a stable clot even in the presence of high-pressure arterial bleeding.
