L-000830982 is a small molecule GABA-A receptor modulator that selectively targets the alpha-1 subunit. Developed by Merck (MSD) and evaluated in collaboration with the Centre for Human Drug Research (CHDR), the compound was investigated as a potential symptomatic treatment for essential tremor. The development rationale was based on the observation that ethanol, which acts non-selectively on GABA-A receptors, effectively reduces tremors in patients.
