L-28 is a small molecule inhibitor of polyisoprenylated methylated protein methyl esterase (PMPMEase), an enzyme critical to the polyisoprenylation pathway. This pathway is responsible for the post-translational modification of monomeric G-proteins, such as those in the Ras superfamily, which are frequently overactive in human cancers. Developed by researchers at Florida A&M University, L-28 has demonstrated the ability to induce cell death in lung cancer cell lines, including A549 and H460, by specifically targeting the overexpression and hyperactivity of PMPMEase. It serves as a potential therapeutic candidate and research tool for investigating PMPMEase as a biomarker and target in lung cancer therapy.
