L-5-bromo-Trp8-somatostatin-14 is a **synthetic peptide analogue of somatostatin-14** in which the eighth amino acid (tryptophan) is replaced by L-5-bromo-tryptophan. This modification leads to a compound that demonstrates increased potency in suppressing growth hormone release compared to native somatostatin. Specifically, L-5-bromo-Trp8-somatostatin-14, along with other Trp8-substituted analogues, has been found to be significantly more effective at suppressing growth hormone release from cultured rat pituitary cells, sometimes showing 20–30 times the activity of somatostatin itself. Like somatostatin-14, it is presumed to act primarily via **agonism of somatostatin receptors (primarily SSTR2 and SSTR5)**, resulting in inhibition of growth hormone, insulin, and glucagon secretion[8].
