Drug intelligence / Profile preview
L-Arabinose is a naturally occurring pentose monosaccharide extracted from plant sources such as corn fiber, beet pulp, and acacia. It is a non-caloric sugar with sweetening properties and is poorly absorbed in the human gut. L-Arabinose acts primarily by selectively inhibiting intestinal sucrase activity in a noncompetitive manner, thereby delaying sucrose digestion and reducing postprandial blood glucose spikes. This mechanism supports its use for weight management and glycemic control. L-Arabinose has been studied for its potential to suppress obesity by regulating fasting blood glucose levels and improving insulin resistance index. It is used as a low-calorie sweetener in food products, as an ingredient in dietary supplements aimed at supporting healthy blood sugar levels, and has applications in pharmaceuticals (as an excipient), biotechnology (fermentation processes), cosmetics (moisturizing agent), and research on carbohydrate metabolism[1][3][5][6][7].
