l-arginine-threonine-arginine (RTR) is a PGP-neutralizing peptide investigated for its potential therapeutic role in chronic obstructive pulmonary disease (COPD), particularly in attenuating smoke-induced emphysema. It functions by inhibiting the influx of neutrophils and macrophages into the lungs, thereby reducing inflammation. Studies in murine models have shown that RTR can attenuate the development of emphysema, normalize lung volumes, and reduce right ventricular hypertrophy. It also reduces levels of acetylated proline-glycine-proline (acPGP) peptides, which are critical in the development of smoke-induced emphysema and augment neutrophilic inflammation via CXCR2.
