Drug intelligence / Profile preview
This is a multi-agent combination chemotherapy regimen consisting of five drugs: - **L-asparaginase** is an enzyme that catalyzes the breakdown of asparagine, depriving certain cancer cells (notably in acute lymphoblastic leukemia) of this essential amino acid, leading to inhibition of protein synthesis and cell death[1][3][5]. - **Dextromethorphan** is primarily an antitussive (cough suppressant) acting on the central nervous system as an NMDA receptor antagonist. It has no established role in standard oncology regimens. - **Ifosfamide** is an alkylating agent that interferes with DNA replication and transcription, used in various solid tumors and hematologic malignancies[7][10]. - **Etoposide** inhibits topoisomerase II, causing DNA strand breaks and apoptosis; it is widely used for lung cancer, testicular cancer, lymphoma, and leukemia[7][10]. - **Cisplatin** forms DNA crosslinks leading to apoptosis; it is a platinum-based chemotherapeutic agent commonly used for many solid tumors including lung cancer[7][10]. While combinations such as ifosfamide/etoposide/cisplatin are well-established for certain cancers (e.g., small cell lung cancer), there are no standard regimens or clinical evidence supporting the use of all five agents together with dextromethorphan. The inclusion of dextromethorphan suggests either experimental use or off-label investigation.
