The combination of l-asparaginase, vincristine, and prednisone, commonly referred to as the LVP regimen, is a chemotherapy protocol primarily investigated for the treatment of extranodal natural killer/T-cell lymphoma (ENKTL), nasal type. Developed and extensively studied by researchers at the West China Hospital of Sichuan University, this regimen was designed to overcome the resistance of NK/T-cell lymphoma to traditional anthracycline-based therapies like CHOP, which are often ineffective due to high expression of P-glycoprotein. L-asparaginase is an enzyme that depletes circulating L-asparagine, an amino acid essential for the survival of malignant lymphoid cells that lack asparagine synthetase. Vincristine, a vinca alkaloid, acts as a microtubule inhibitor to disrupt mitosis, while prednisone, a synthetic corticosteroid, provides lymphocytolytic effects and helps manage inflammation. The LVP regimen has demonstrated significant efficacy as a first-line treatment, often used in conjunction with radiotherapy for localized disease.
