Overview

L-beta-aminoisobutyric acid (L-BAIBA) is a naturally occurring non-protein amino acid and myokine produced by skeletal muscle during physical exercise through the catabolism of valine. Developed by Vedic Lifesciences for the treatment of obesity, L-BAIBA acts as a metabolic signaling molecule that promotes the browning of white adipose tissue into a thermogenic beige phenotype. Its biological mechanism involves the activation of the AMP-activated protein kinase (AMPK) and peroxisome proliferator-activated receptor delta (PPARδ) pathways, which collectively increase fatty acid oxidation in the liver and skeletal muscle while decreasing hepatic lipogenesis. Clinical studies have focused on evaluating the safety and metabolic efficacy of oral L-BAIBA supplementation in healthy volunteers.
