Drug intelligence / Profile preview
A combination therapy consisting of l-carnitine and simvastatin. L-carnitine is an amino acid derivative involved in fatty acid metabolism, while simvastatin is a statin that inhibits HMG-CoA reductase. When administered together, they demonstrate enhanced lipid-lowering effects compared to simvastatin alone, particularly for triglyceride reduction and lipoprotein(a) [Lp(a)] lowering. This combination creates a less atherogenic plasma lipid profile and may be particularly beneficial for patients with type 2 diabetes mellitus with hyperlipidemia.
