Drug intelligence / Profile preview
L-carnitine tartrate is a dietary supplement form of L-carnitine combined with tartaric acid to enhance stability and absorption. It plays a critical role in energy metabolism by transporting long-chain fatty acids into the mitochondria for beta-oxidation and energy production. This process helps reduce purine catabolism and free radical formation, which may prevent exercise fatigue, muscle weakness, chemotherapy-induced peripheral neuropathy, and hyperlipoproteinemia[1][2][4]. Supplementation has been shown to improve recovery after exercise by reducing muscle soreness and biochemical markers of muscle damage[5]. It is primarily used to treat or prevent low blood levels of carnitine due to genetic disorders or other medical conditions but is also marketed for athletic performance enhancement and weight loss[2][8].
