Overview

l-carnosine + methylphenidate is a combination therapy involving the dietary supplement l-carnosine and the pharmaceutical stimulant methylphenidate. This combination has been studied as an adjunctive treatment for children and adolescents with attention-deficit/hyperactivity disorder (ADHD). Methylphenidate acts primarily as a central nervous system stimulant by inhibiting the reuptake of dopamine and norepinephrine, increasing their synaptic concentrations. L-carnosine is a naturally occurring dipeptide with antioxidant properties, proposed to have neuroprotective effects and possible modulatory action on neurotransmitter systems such as GABA and NMDA receptors. Clinical studies suggest that adding l-carnosine to methylphenidate may improve some ADHD symptoms, particularly inattention, according to parent ratings; however, evidence remains limited and further research is needed[1][2][4][6].
