Overview

l-desmethylphencyclonate hydrochloride (LS001) is a small molecule anticholinergic agent currently under clinical investigation for the treatment of Parkinson's disease. It is a derivative of phencyclonate, a muscarinic acetylcholine receptor antagonist. The drug is being developed by The Second Affiliated Hospital of Zhejiang University School of Medicine. As an anticholinergic, its primary mechanism of action involves the antagonism of muscarinic receptors in the central nervous system, which helps to restore the balance between dopaminergic and cholinergic neurotransmission in the striatum—a balance that is typically disrupted in Parkinson's disease. Phase I clinical trials are evaluating the safety, tolerability, and pharmacokinetics of LS001 tablets in patients with early and middle-stage Parkinson's disease.
