Overview
L-glutamine is a naturally occurring amino acid and small molecule being investigated as a metabolic therapeutic in the treatment of advanced pancreatic cancer. In the Phase I GlutaPanc trial led by Dr. Jun Gong at Cedars-Sinai Medical Center, L-glutamine is used as an oral supplement in combination with gemcitabine and nab-paclitaxel. Preclinical evidence suggests that glutamine supplementation can enhance the antitumor activity of gemcitabine against pancreatic ductal adenocarcinoma (PDAC) cells, contrary to the traditional approach of glutamine deprivation. The trial aims to establish the safety and recommended Phase II dose of this combination in treatment-naïve patients with locally advanced or metastatic disease.
